The Act Concerning Strangers reinforced restrictions on trading, and included new limitations on leasing property
Kathleen is a history PhD researcher at the University of Sheffield, funded by WRoCAH. Her research seeks to recover how the changing and contested status in law of immigrants to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England interacted with developing notions of citizenship. Prior to beginning my research she worked for twelve years in the not-for-profit immigration legal sector; her experiences there, particularly the value placed on legal citizenship by people seeking asylum, refugees, and migrants, has informed her work.
