Letter: Why aren’t we considering agrivoltaics?

Dear Editor,

I am constantly surprised how little consideration is given to agrivoltaics – an option where solar panels are raised enough to allow crops to be grown underneath. This has been proven beneficial for many crops in our new climate conditions. Canada has embraced this, and I understand that Egypt is now doing the same.

East Anglia suffers from insufficient rain and reducing ground water. Anything that mitigates the need to irrigate crops must surely be worth some careful consideration?

I also note that the government decided not to pursue the French requirement to place solar panels over car parks…
