I find that I am in agreement with the Home Secretary, who has today made the claim that homelessness is a lifestyle choice.
Where she and I differ is that she thinks it is the homeless who have chosen their way of life. Whereas I think that people end up homeless because of the choices made by politicians who have cut support services, reduced the availability of affordable housing, pumped extra money into the economy and failed to recover it from the rich through tax.
Either way, homelessness is not inevitable. We can all make the lifestyle choice to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly.
