Cambridge for Europe is holding a fête to celebrate Europe Day on Saturday. All proceeds will go to Cambridge4Ukraine to support the work they are doing to help the people of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainians in the Cambridge area.
The fête will be held in St. Giles’ Church and grounds on Castle Street in central Cambridge this Saturday, from 1pm-4pm.
Activities will include:
- Music by 4Tunes Friends, Dragan Cvejic, Jeremy Harmer, Les Ray, ReSound a cappella and more
- Arts, crafts and games for children with Mums 4 Ukraine
- Food and drink stalls
- Plant sales
- A raffle
Organisers are encouraging attendees to bring along food and drink, plants for their stalls, or to donate a prize for their raffle.
Cambridge for Europe (CfE) is a pro-EU grassroots group – a branch of the European Movement UK – and has both run and supported many events in Cambridge over the last six years. Since the full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February, CfE has supported local organisations: Cambridge4Ukraine and the Cambridge University Ukrainian Society, including providing organisational support for events and speaking at marches and rallies in support of Ukraine.
Europe Day is held annually on 9th May, and marks the anniversary of the presentation of the Schuman Declaration, an event which led to today’s European Union. Europe Day celebrates shared values of freedom, democracy, human rights, equality, human dignity and the rule of law, the same values that the people of Ukraine are now fighting to defend against the Russian invasion.
