Magical music venue

Stapleford Granary has announced its line-up for this year’s Courtyard Concerts, taking place in June and July. The venue, located in the heart of a former Victorian farming complex, is transformed into a magical outdoor setting for live music.

The courtyard, surrounded by lavender bushes and creeping clematis and set against the black wood of historic stable blocks, provides the perfect backdrop for the performances. A 300 square metre tent with five turrets and dripping with festoon lights covers a staged area and provides fully sheltered seating for 180 people.

A varied musical feast

Kicking off the season on Friday 9 June is much-loved folk band Flook, followed by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and his ambient post-rock band LYR on Friday 16 June. The Trials of Cato, a folk band formed in Beirut, Lebanon, will bring their striking new music to the courtyard on Friday 30 June. Finally, The Best of American Jazz & Swing will wrap up the series on Saturday 8 July, performed by the stellar Mark Crooks Quintet. Further details at their website.

CEO Kate Romano is excited about this year’s line-up, stating that “As the day turns to dusk and the lights start to twinkle, the atmosphere changes into something out of a fairytale. Add live music into the mix and you really do experience something quite unforgettable. As with all things we do at the Granary, our Courtyard Concerts radiate a relaxed, friendly and inclusive air with food and drink a big part of the experience”.

Stapleford Granary is an Arts Centre set in a converted 19th century farm complex. It is situated at the foot of the Gog Magog Downs 5 miles from the centre of Cambridge. The venue hosts concerts and art exhibitions throughout the year and is open six days a week. The summer-time Courtyard Concerts have become a popular event for music-lovers in the area.
