“Reek of the week” correction

Dear Mr Pecksniff,

I enjoy reading your diary but I was surprised to see you write that you had a clear winner for “Reek of the Week” and had awarded the accolade to James Wild MP (NW Norfolk) on the strength of an impressive 7,110 hours of discharge of raw sewage.

However, Jonathan Djanogly MP might be miffed that you seem to have overlooked the Huntingdon constituency, where the discharges clocked up 7,293 hours from 560 spills counted, according to the Rivers Trust map. The true figure will certainly be rather more than that because monitoring was carried out on only 14 of the 28 storm outflows.

As the Huntingdon figure is higher than NW Norfolk’s on the basis of the discharges from only half of the outflows, I think a correction in your next diary and an apology to Mr Djanogly might be in order.

Regards,

Malcolm Lynn
Huntingdon
